Third Stop: Quick Coffee Run at Gigi Coffee, Mid Valley Southkey

Dear food people,
The 2 main coffee brands that seem to be in direct competition at Mid Valley Southkey are Gigi and Zeus.
I’d heard from several people that Zeus tends to be the crowd favourite, but after sampling both, I’d say each has its own appeal depending on what you’re after.
GIGI V.S. ZEUS.
In my opinion, Zeus goes for a stronger, darker roast is perfect if you love a bold cup while Gigi leans towards a lighter, smoother roast that’s ideal for those who are more caffeine sensitive or prefer a gentler brew.
I opted for an iced latte with soy milk at Gigi, and it turned out to be a great choice. The lighter roast worked especially well after a meal, making it a refreshing and not-too-heavy pick-me-up.
Both brands are worth trying, but your preference might just come down to how you like your beans roasted.
Gigi also offers Coconut Cream as a dairy alternative, but I didn’t get to try it since it was out of stock. If you get the chance to try it, let us know in the Comments whether it’s worth a go! :)
The Verdict.
A regular-sized iced soy latte at Gigi set me back RM15, which works out to about SGD 4.54, a bit more wallet-friendly than what you’d typically pay for a similar drink in Singapore.
Not a bad deal at all for a quality cup of coffee in a mall setting.
Location: Tk-03, 3rd floor, Persiaran Southkey 1, Southkey, 81100 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opens from 10am.
Fourth Stop: Gong Cha at Johor Bahru City Square

Located at Lot MK3-06 on Level 3 of JB City Square, the Gong Cha kiosk is a convenient stop for a bubble tea fix. The best part? There’s rarely a long queue, and service is brisk, so you won’t be waiting long for your drink.
MINI STRAWBERRY MILK TEA.
I decided to try one of their new releases, the Mini Strawberry Milk Tea. It’s essentially a blend of milk and strawberry jam, with just a subtle hint of tea. The drink also features mini sago pearls, which add a pleasant texture without feeling too heavy.
However, I was caught off guard by just how sweet it was even after choosing the lowest sugar option at 30%.
With the addition of fruit jam, the drink was much sweeter than I expected. In hindsight, I’d have opted for 0% sugar if I’d known. The regular-sized cup was priced at RM15 and just about SGD 5, which is about on par with Singapore’s prices.
If you’re after something new and don’t mind a sugar rush, it’s worth a try. Just be warned: go easy on the sugar level!
