Dear food people,

If you know me, you know I hold artisanal coffee to high standards. At the very least, the crema shouldn't be burnt, something that's frequently mistaken for the naturally bitter notes of dark roast beans. Serving a latte with burnt crema is, in my book, practically a crime against the craft of coffee-making. A poorly crafted cup simply isn’t worth today's prices and definitely a waste of calories!

Thankfully, RISE Coffee gets it spot on and is worth a few sessions of hot yoga to burn off the excess calories. It's not just the beautifully curated interior, styled with the flow of various shades of vibrant orange & red, that impressed me.

The star here truly is their coffee. From the moment you order, you're asked about your roast preference, light, medium, or dark, a thoughtful touch I haven’t encountered often.

Prices at RISE are reasonable, an Americano sets you back 95 Baht (or SGD 3.74), while lattes are priced at around 105 Baht, which is slightly more than SGD 4.

For those avoiding caffeine, they’ve got several appealing options too.

BACKGROUND

RISE markets itself as a progressive coffee space and micro-roastery based in the heart of Bangkok. Their philosophy is rooted in the idea that everyday coffee should be fast-paced and dynamic to suit the lifestyle of city dwellers, but without compromising on quality or service.

Their mission is to redefine Third Wave coffee culture by making it more inclusive, catering to both those who want a simple, straightforward brew and those who crave a more complex coffee story. The community ethos of "#RISEwithThePeople" is very much alive here.

As part of their operation, RISE also runs RISE LAB, a micro-roastery founded by a team of unconventional coffee enthusiasts obsessed with every facet of coffee-making. They source, roast, cup, and train. Basically, if it’s coffee-related, they’re doing it.

Their close collaboration with local farmers helps uplift farming communities while ensuring high-quality green beans make their way to the roastery.

ICED DIRTY CEREAL KILLER

Intrigued by their creatively named menu, I chose the Iced Dirty Cereal Killer. At 135 Baht (just over SGD 5), it's pricier than their standard offerings but significantly cheaper than similar specialty drinks in Singapore, which typically hover around SGD 8-9 or more.

The Iced Dirty Cereal Killer is a delightful blend featuring cereal-infused milk, lending a subtly sweet undertone to the latte, topped with a playful crunch of actual cereal. The espresso melds beautifully with the sweetness and texture, transforming this modestly sized cup into the perfect dessert-like indulgence after a meal.

Aside from coffee, RISE also showcases a tempting selection of curated pastries, ideal if you're in need of a quick bite.

Although my appetite was fully satisfied from my hearty breakfast at Sarnies, the pastry selection certainly looked worth returning for.

DID YOU KNOW?

The colours red, yellow, orange, and green are commonly used by food brands because they stimulate appetite. Studies suggest these hues evoke a psychological response associated with ripe fruits and vegetables, just think about the branding of global favourites like McDonald's, KFC, In-N-Out Burger, and Burger King.

THE VERDICT

  • Shiok Rating: 5 out of 5 for flavour, texture, and the innovative spin on iced lattes.

  • Vibe Rating: 5 out of 5 for their friendly service, aesthetics, colour scheme, and contemporary interior design.

RISE Coffee is definitely a spot I'll revisit whenever I'm craving a quality caffeinated treat.

Whether you're a coffee enthusiast or simply someone who enjoys a thoughtfully crafted café experience, RISE Coffee checks all the boxes.

The attention to detail in both their beverage offerings and the cafe’s aesthetics is outstanding, creating an environment that's as enjoyable as it is memorable.

I highly recommend giving RISE a visit, you won't be disappointed.
